The School teaches long standing, and very successful, LLB and LLM programmes in a £10m purpose-built Building on the University of Hertfordshire’s de Havilland campus, which includes a full-scale replica Crown Court Room and state-of-the-art teaching facilities. 

We are seeking to appoint individuals to teach on a variety of subject areas with an enthusiastic approach towards working with students, as well as members of the University’s regional legal and business community, and a keen appreciation for the University’s business-facing strategy.

  • £40,322 – £51,034 per annum (or pro rata) depending on skills and experience

    Main duties & responsibilities

    You will, in liaison with the Programme Leader, develop and deliver the LLM Bar Practice Programme for expected first delivery in September 2021. You will most likely take responsibility for one of the core modules which may include criminal or civil litigation, conferencing, drafting, opinion writing, advocacy or professional ethics. Working closely with the Programme Leader, you will ensure the continuous development of the curriculum and provide academic and pastoral support to the student body.

    Skills and experience needed

    Experience of practice as a Barrister or Solicitor of England and Wales and/or teaching on a Bar Practice Course or equivalent is essential with particular experience of teaching any of the core modules. We are particularly interested in applicants with teaching experience in litigation (Criminal or Civil) and Advocacy (see the Person Specification for details), and / or of practical legal or business experience.

    Qualifications required

    You will have a Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification, alongside a Masters qualification in Law or equivalent professional qualification. A teaching qualification and/or Fellowship of AdvanceHE is desirable.

  • £40,322 – £51,034 per annum (or pro rata) depending on skills and experience

    Main duties & responsibilities

    You will, in liaison with the Programme Leader, lead and deliver the LLM Legal Practice Programme. You will ensure the continuous development of the curriculum and provide academic and pastoral support to the student body.  In addition, you will contribute to the delivery of the School’s co-curricular programme and contribute to the expertise of the Hertfordshire Law Clinic.

    Skills and experience needed

    Experience of teaching on a Legal Practice course is essential; however, it would also be advantageous to have experience of teaching drafting, conferencing, opinion writing and or legal/research. We are particularly interested in applicants with teaching or practical experience in specific areas and/or of experience of curriculum design on a Legal Practice course or equivalent.

    Qualifications required

    You will be a Qualified Barrister or Solicitor of England and Wales. You will have a Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification, alongside a Masters qualification in Law or equivalent professional qualification. A teaching qualification and/or Fellowship of AdvanceHE is desirable.

  • £40,322 – £51,034 per annum depending on skills and experience

    Main duties & responsibilities

    We are seeking to appoint an experienced academic with proven ability of curriculum design to lead on the design, accreditation and delivery of preparation courses for the new Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), including standalone short courses and a new LLM.

    You will be working closely with colleagues to develop and deliver preparation courses for SQE for a proposed intake from September 2022. Alongside this you’ll be delivering modules on the LLM Legal Practice Course and other programmes, and assisting and supporting other Module leaders at Hertfordshire Law School.

    Skills and experience needed

    You will have experience of programme and module design, and specifically experience of the design and delivery of innovative, practice-informed and engaging modules in at least one (and ideally two) of the following SQE areas of functioning legal knowledge:

    • Business law and practice;
    • Dispute resolution;
    • Contract;
    • Tort;
    • Legal system of England and Wales;
    • Constitutional and administrative Law and EU law and legal Services.
    • Property practice;
    • Wills and the administration of estates;
    • Solicitors accounts;
    • Land law;
    • Trusts;
    • Criminal law and practice.

    Qualifications required

    You will hold a Bachelors degree (or equivalent) as well as a Masters degree in Law or equivalent level professional qualification. Undertaking or having completed a PhD, research or professional experience, a teaching qualification and/or Fellowship of Advance HE would be highly advantageous.

    Main duties & responsibilities

    You will teach on our Equity and Trust law module on the LLB and other modules where appropriate. You will assist and support other Module Leaders on the LLB Programme, and potentially lead a module yourself.

    You will contribute to the ongoing development of the School’s growing research community be able to go on to pursue a programme of research to a standard appropriate for consideration under the Research Excellence Framework (REF), including the ability to secure external funding opportunities.

    You will contribute to the School’s academic and pastoral care of its students and to the enhancement of their learning, personal development and achievement, particularly through acting as a Student Support Tutor.

    Skills and experience needed

    You will have teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in Equity & Trust Law or chancery and/or property law. You will also have experience of designing or contributing to the design of engaging and intellectually stimulating modules which have professional or industry relevance.

    Qualifications required

    You will hold a Bachelors degree (or equivalent) as well as a Masters degree in Law or equivalent level professional qualification. Undertaking or having completed a PhD, research or professional experience, a teaching qualification and / or Fellowship of Advance HE would be highly advantageous.

    Main duties & responsibilities

    You will teach on one or more of the following modules; Tort law, Public Law, Public International Law on the LLB and other modules where appropriate. You will assist and support other Module Leaders on the LLB Programme, and potentially lead a module yourself.

    You will contribute to the ongoing development of the School’s growing research community be able to go on to pursue a programme of research to a standard appropriate for consideration under the Research Excellence Framework (REF), including the ability to secure external funding opportunities.

    You will contribute to the School’s academic and pastoral care of its students and to the enhancement of their learning, personal development and achievement, particularly through acting as a Student Support Tutor.

    Skills and experience needed

    You will have teaching experience at undergraduate and / or postgraduate level in Tort Law, and/or Public Law and/or Public International Law. You will also have experience of designing or contributing to the design of engaging and intellectually stimulating modules which have professional or industry relevance. Ideally you would also be able to offer experience of teaching an additional foundation of legal knowledge subject, and may have practical, legal or other professional experience.

    Qualifications required

    You will hold a Bachelors degree (or equivalent) as well as a Masters degree in Law or equivalent level professional qualification. Undertaking or having completed a PhD, or extensive legal professional experience and/or scholarly activity is essential at Senior Lecturer.
